Why Does Renovating a Small Space Not Cost Less?

People often assume that renovating a small space automatically costs less. But in reality… it’s often the opposite! Optimizing limited square footage requires more precision, planning, and sometimes even greater technical investment than larger spaces. In this article, I share my perspective as an interior architect, shaped by renovation experiences in both France and Brazil. You’ll discover why every square meter matters, and how—with the right guidance—even a small space can become a thoughtfully designed and truly comfortable home.

Why Renovating a Small Space Doesn’t Necessarily Cost Less
...and why surrounding yourself with the right professionals is essential for success.

When I’m contacted for a studio, one-bedroom, or compact apartment project, I often hear:
“It’s just a small space, so it should be quicker and less expensive, right?”

And yet, from experience, I can tell you: size isn’t everything.
I’ve worked with many homeowners and investors on projects ranging from 20 to 50 m². And every time, the challenge is the same: to create a space that feels fluid, functional, and beautiful — without sacrificing comfort or personality.

Why small-scale renovations can be just as demanding

1. Every centimeter matters
In small spaces, there’s no room for guesswork. Every zone, every angle, every piece of furniture must be considered. It requires creativity, thoughtful modeling, and anticipation.
That’s what I love most about my job: turning constraints into creative opportunities.

2. Technical costs are fixed
Plumbing, electrical work, kitchens, bathrooms… these essentials are required no matter the square footage. The price of an electrical panel, a faucet, or a vanity doesn’t depend on the size of your apartment.

3. Custom design is often key
I often rely on bespoke solutions: integrated headboards, hidden storage, multifunctional furniture. It’s an investment — but one that transforms everyday life.

4. Quality stands out
In a small apartment, every detail is visible — from finishes to lighting to materials. My job is also to create a balanced, soft and harmonious atmosphere — without overcrowding the space.

What I bring as an interior architect

With experiences between France and Brazil, I’ve developed a sensitive, structured, and human-centered approach.
I take the time to truly understand your lifestyle, your needs, your vision.
Then, I offer concrete, visual, and realistic solutions — with attention to detail and a deep sense of listening.

Whether you’re short on ideas, time, or simply need a professional’s insight, I’m here to help — remotely or on-site.

Deliverables tailored to your needs:

2D plans (furnishing, electrical layout, elevations, sections)
Realistic 3D renderings
Moodboards & visual concepts
Custom furniture design
Shopping list & estimated budget
Recommendation reports
Aesthetic coordination of construction work

The cost depends on your needs and the deliverables — and we’ll define that together, with full transparency.

My added value: an international profile, a strong ability to adapt, and a deep commitment to bespoke solutions — especially when space is limited.
