In the Yvelines, in the region of Paris - France, a 180 m² house has found a new lease on life thanks to the expertise of HOJE STUDIO. Designed for a couple in their thirties and their two young children, this project unfolded in two phases, subtly blending refreshing updates with more ambitious transformations. Combining contemporary touches, clever optimizations, and respect for the home’s original charm, here is a look back at a renovation that is both aesthetic and functional.

A Fresh Start: Modernizing the Ground Floor

From the very first task entrusted to HOJE STUDIO, the goal was clear: eliminate the concrete look of the walls and bring warmth to the living space while preserving key elements of the house, such as its magnificent travertine flooring.
In the kitchen, the choice of a dark green chevron backsplash (from Comptoir du Cérame) instantly elevated the elegance of the space, adding depth and character. A wooden screen subtly structured the entryway and kitchen while maximizing natural light flow into the living room.
For the living area, a deep blue-green hue was chosen with the clients for the walls, contrasted by a warm yellow wallpaper surrounding the fireplace. This carefully integrated detail foreshadowed the future custom-built bookshelf that will complete the space, providing both storage and comfort to enjoy cozy evenings by the fire.
Regarding furniture, the homeowners wanted to keep their existing pieces. HOJE STUDIO advised them on selecting dining chairs, fabric materials to favor, and a harmonious color palette for decorative elements.

A New Sleeping Area: Optimizing and Refining

Pleased with the first collaboration, the homeowners called upon HOJE STUDIO again for a complete overhaul of the upper floor, with particular attention to the master suite, the children’s bedrooms, and their bathroom.

The Master Bedroom: Combining Functionality and Serenity

In this attic room, the original layout lacked flow and optimized storage. A U-shaped wardrobe was designed to take advantage of the sloping ceilings: on one side, a space dedicated to dresses and long garments; on the other, custom-built drawers to maximize storage.
The sleeping area was also redesigned with a custom headboard integrating suspended nightstands and recessed lighting. By removing floor lamps, the layout gained lightness and practicality.
To brighten the room further, three new Velux windows were installed, an upgrade also carried out in the adjoining bathroom.

A Bathroom with a Bold Design

No more direct opening onto the bedroom: the bathroom was restructured to enhance privacy and comfort. Terrazzo tiles mixing terracotta, blue, and ochre tones harmonize with warm wall paint colors.
The vanity unit topped with a large mirror reflects the shower tiles, creating a subtle sense of depth. For a more contemporary look, a custom glass shower screen with black frames was chosen, providing an elegant contrast.
The original beams, previously painted white, were sanded to reveal their raw and natural look, reinforcing the authenticity of the room. A few wooden shelves under the slope complete this balance between warmth and modernity.

A Floor Designed for the Whole Family

The children’s bedrooms also received bespoke updates. Beyond new paint, storage was created under the sloped ceilings with a central cabinet and side shelves, offering maximum practicality.
The little ones even had a say! Their daughter chose a wallpaper with green and pink springtime patterns, adding a soft and playful touch to her space.
In the bathroom, simplicity and elegance prevail with rectangular white tiles laid in a chevron pattern, punctuated by a floor with soft, desaturated cement tile imitation tones. To improve circulation and clear the entrance, the toilet was moved under the slope, optimizing the space ideally.
Finally, a subtle interplay of matching materials was introduced: wooden shelves under the window echo the restored beams, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
